At first not being able to run while my shins recover was novel. Even kind of fun. I got to do tons of sewing, read a book, and even sat around.
It was lovely.
Well, I’m over that. I want to run. I’m irritated because I can’t workout. I really, really think I can feel the muscles fading from my legs. (Is that paranoia? Because I think it’s real).
The ideal thing to do when recovering from a shin injury is supposed to be swimming. But I don’t have a gym membership. I also am allowed to ride an exercise bike. Again, no gym membership. So I’m doing strength training. But I just want to run. And dance. And bounce around.
Sigh…
Sorry to be whiney. I’m open to suggestions of low impact workouts that will work my legs and/or cardiovascular system. I’ve been a little paranoid, but I think today I’m going to have to at least do some (gentle) squats and lunges. I’m going crazy here!

You are not being whiney. It’s a running blog….vent away. I didn’t swim for a very long time either. I finally gave in and purchased a 6 month 1 person gym membership so that I could swim and I bought a cheap $50 bike trainer off of craigslist. I justified it by saying I’ll be using the bike even after I am fully recovered. Walking is supposed to be the BEST form of active recovery. I wish I could remember the research off the top of my head for you to read. hang in there and wishing you a fast recovery!
Great! I have been walking still (Ada the dog still needs exercise!). It sounds nice to have a gym membership! Thanks for the encouragement!
I hope the squats and lunges went well!
I have had shin problems in the past and felt like I could do nothing but yoga and walks. And sometimes walking was even painful!
Lol, yeah the farthest walk I’ve done is 2 miles because after 1 mile it started to hurt, so I turned back around! I love yoga, but haven’t done it much since I stopped having a gym membership. It’s so relaxing AND builds strength! I’ve been thinking about getting a yoga DVD, but I’m not sure if I’d actually do it if it wasn’t a live class!
I’ll write you more later but I emailed Tony today about Sunday and you should too – request aid station #3!
or you can marshal apparently they need those too. He said we should have heard by now so I don’t know what happened.
I saw your message and then checked me email and had an email from Tony…right now he’s got me down for Finish Line. I told him I’d gladly do Finish Line if that’s where they really need me, but asked to be switched to Aid Station #3 if they could spare me! I’ll let you know what I hear back.
